Every city has some of what might be called “rogue” enterprises: businesses that don’t follow city ordinances or state laws, that allow or create nuisances or outright harbor criminal operations.
Those are usually brought to the attention of city officials, but closing those businesses down can be time-consuming and complicated.
At the next meeting of the Stanton City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 22, the agenda includes consideration of an ordinance that would amend the municipal code updating the regulations governing the issuance and revocation of business licenses.

The goal is to clarify the city’s requirements for issuing a license and strengthening the grounds by which the city may suspend or revoke a business license and streamline the city’s appeal process.
Also on the agenda for Tuesday are:
• the award of a construction contract to demolish and remove an existing restroom building and concrete foundation at Stanton Park in the amount of $49,122;
– the second reading and adoption of an ordinance allowing a six-month “pause” in payments owed to the city by the owners of the “Cloud” apartment complex on Beach Boulevard because of the impact of the GKN Aerospace hazmat incident.
There will be a closed session at 5 p.m. with the regular session at 6:30 p.m. in Stanton City Hall, 7800 Katella Ave.
