Neurotech Pharmaceuticals Inc., whose executive chairman is well-known Orange County leader Jim Mazzo, has been acquired by Alcon for $550 million.
This adds the Rhode Island-based biotech company’s treatment, ENCELTO, to Alcon’s retina portfolio.
It’s the first and only FDA-approved treatment for adults with a rare, progressive retinal disease that can lead to irreversible central vision loss.
“Alcon’s global scale, commercial capabilities and scientific expertise will expand and facilitate patient access to ENCELTO, and I’m grateful to the entire Neurotech team, as well as the physicians, investigators, patients, and advocates within the MacTel community whose dedication has made this achievement possible,” Richard Small, chief executive of Neurotech, said in a statement.
