Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has acquired Yamaha Motor Corporation USA’s longtime 25-acre U.S. headquarters, the Business Journal learned, as Yamaha prepares to move its remaining local motor operations to Georgia.
Avison Young, the firm that handled the sale, did not share the buyer’s name or the sale price for the property at 6555 Katella Ave. in Cypress. However, property records show that Burbank-based Walt Disney Company’s Parks and Resorts division completed the purchase on Sept. 23.
Transfer tax records on the grant deed show the property sold for about $115 million, the Business Journal estimates.

“This is a transformational moment for both Yamaha and the city of Cypress,” said Barnes, principal at Avison Young.
“The acquisition underscores the caliber of this asset and the strength of the local market. In the years ahead, we expect the community to benefit from greater economic activity for nearby businesses and the continuation of Cypress’s long history of corporate investment.”
They did not provide further comment.

Officials from Yamaha and Disneyland Resort did not respond to the Business Journal’s request for a statement on Friday.
The sale comes as businesses deal with rising tariffs and higher manufacturing costs.
Yamaha Motor officials earlier told the Business Journal that moving the headquarters and selling the 25-acre property are part of a bigger plan to make its U.S. operations more profitable as market conditions change.
Iwata-based Yamaha bought the Cypress land in 1978 and opened its U.S. headquarters there in 1979.

It is one of the largest redevelopment sites in North Orange County, where space is limited.

The company moved its marine business to Kennesaw, Georgia, in 1999 and its motorsports operations there in 2019.
Only corporate and financial services remained in Cypress.
Yamaha officials previously said they planned to lease the entire property back until Dec. 31, 2028, while finishing the move to Georgia.
With this purchase, Disney, Orange County’s top employer, now controls a large industrial and office property about seven miles — or about a 15–20-minute drive — west of Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.
