Apple has been ordered to pay Masimo an additional $184.2 million in interest tied to a $634 million patent infringement verdict, bringing the total to more than $818 million
A federal judge ruled that Masimo is entitled to prejudgment interest on damages awarded last year after a jury found Apple infringed a Masimo patent covering pulse oximetry technology used in Apple Watches.
The judge rejected Apple’s argument that the interest would amount to a windfall for Masimo, instead using Masimo’s borrowing rate to calculate the $184.2 million award.
Apple must also pay 4% post-judgment interest on the $818.5 million total until the judgment is satisfied.
