Orange County and Mind OC, the nonprofit that does business as Be Well OC, have ended their operational partnership in charge of the Be Well OC campuses in Orange and Irvine, effective today.
The county will now take full responsibility for the campuses under the Orange County Health Care Agency. The new Irvine campus, a $118 million project on 22 acres of county-owned land near the Great Park, was originally expected to open in the spring.
“We believe bringing these services directly under OC Health Care Agency management establishes a clear line of County responsibility, strengthens service coordination among County health providers, and enhances the County’s delivery of specialized care to the individuals and families who rely on these programs,” OC Supervisor Board Chairman Doug Chaffee said in a statement.
“The mission of Be Well OC is to enhance the behavioral health care system for all Orange County residents through transformational public and private partnerships, and we are proud to have built two state-of-the-art campuses for behavioral health services in Orange County. We look forward to continuing our mission and serving Orange County residents,” said Dr. Richard Afable, chairman of the board, Mind OC.
The county plans to launch services at the Irvine campus “as soon as possible,” including crisis stabilization, residential treatment and substance use recovery, while services at the Orange campus will continue unaffected. It will also rebrand both campuses under a new County-owned identity.
