Irvine-based SpyGlass Pharma Inc. has acquired Advanced Vision Science Inc. (AVS), an ophthalmic medical device company and maker of intraocular lenses in Goleta, for $13 million.
AVS was previously a subsidiary of Japanese eyecare company Santen Pharmaceutical Co. The company already supplies the intraocular lenses used in SpyGlass’ two Phase 3 trials. IOLs replace the eye’s natural lens, which is removed during cataract surgery.
SpyGlass, which went public in February, is a late-stage biopharmaceutical company developing drug delivery solutions for chronic eye conditions.
Shares in SpyGlass (Nasdaq: SGP) today were up 2.4% to $26.61 apiece with an $890 million market cap.
