It is execution day for Christa Pike after the U.S. Supreme County Tuesday rejected her appeal for clemency in the 1995 murder of fellow Job Corps worker Colleen Slemmer in Knoxville.
This morning at 10 central time at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, Pike is scheduled to be the first woman executed in Tennessee in over 200 years.
The high court’s denial came a day after Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said he would not intervene. The Tennessee Supreme Court had also denied a stay of execution for the now 50-year-old Pike, who was 18 at the time of the murder.
