Forget the 6-3 shellacking the Anaheim Ducks dished out to the Ottawa Senators on Monday night, the even bigger and more exciting news was the official announcement of the Ducks Hometown Remix jersey. While the details about the color pallet and the crest have been percolating around the internet since the summer, seeing the actual final product has been a breath of fresh air, after a rather lackluster start to the 2026-27 season. The Ducks understood the assignment and knocked the jersey design out of the park.
What’s old is new again
From the NHL’s website, on Anaheim’s new look “Inspired by the fresh green of the parks we love to roam and the gold of our sunsets over the water, this jersey is an homage to the good life of Orange County”.
However, if you were a kid in the 1990s, these colors are definitely not inspired by the parks, the sunsets over Orange County, or whatever other legalese the NHL had to use but are rather inspired by the original “Mighty Ducks” movie.
Obviously, the color pallet for Hometown Remix Ducks jersey is way brighter than original “D-5” counterpart, but the resemblance is pretty obvious. The striping pattern on the sleeves and in the shape of the “Flying V” no less, does a solid job of breaking up the monotony of the solid green of the movie look. The totality of the entire kit is sharp; from the outlined number font, the purple pants with yellow vertical striping, and the multicolored horizontal striping along the green socks, everything pays homage to that original look in a modern fashion. The inclusion of a purple helmet is just a chef’s kiss that ties the whole look together.
Famously, the Samuelis have tried to distance themselves from the early days of Disney ownership and have been steadfast in not utilizing one of the most iconic looks in franchise history. While the original Mighty Ducks of Anaheim jerseys may never see the ice again under their stewardship, the current look with the original crest has been a decent half-measure. The Hometown Remix, however, is a rather surprising concession from ownership and one that signals the importance of appealing to a fan base that has been clamoring for a throwback look, instead of a rework of yet another orange jersey. There is no doubt that the Remix jersey and all its associated merchandise will sell at the team store, as the style appeals to an age group that grew up with the “Mighty Ducks” movies.
On the ice
Anaheim fans will not have to wait long to see the Hometown Remix jerseys on the ice, as they will host the Pittsburg Penguins on November 8th in their new threads.
We will wait to reserve judgement on where the Remix jersey ranks in the pantheon of Anaheim looks, as the on-ice play will be the ultimate test, but on a base level, the Ducks have the best look out of all 32 teams in the NHL and it’s not even close.
